Media Acumen

Tell the Story. Control the Narrative.

Everyone consumes content. Very few people know how to create it properly. Media Acumen gives you the technical skills and creative judgement to shoot, edit, write and produce across photography, video, digital platforms and AI-assisted workflows. You learn to see a story, frame it, capture it and deliver it to a standard that holds up professionally. In a world where personal branding, visual communication and digital literacy determine how people perceive you, this is not optional. It is essential.

Photography & Editing

You learn the fundamentals – aperture, shutter speed, ISO, shooting modes, depth of field, white balance and composition – on both DSLR and phone cameras. Then you edit using Adobe Lightroom and professional tools to produce work that is clean, intentional and portfolio-ready. You stop taking photos and start making them.

Video & Cinematography

You learn camera setup for video, pre-production planning, storyboarding, shot lists, camera angles and interview techniques. You learn to film for social media and for longer-form storytelling. You edit using iMovie and similar tools, cutting raw footage into coherent, watchable content. By the end, you can produce a video from concept to final cut without needing anyone else.

Writing & Journalism

You learn to write clearly, concisely and with purpose. Introduction to journalism covers professional writing, structure and the discipline of communicating an idea without hiding behind jargon or waffle. This sharpens everything else – presentations, emails, proposals, pitches, cover letters and every message that carries your name on it. Clear writing is clear thinking.

AI Tools & Digital Literacy

You learn prompt engineering, AI-assisted content creation, AI image and video generation, and AI-driven editing workflows. You study AI ethics and bias. This is not about replacing creativity with a chatbot. It is about understanding where AI creates leverage in a production process and where it falls short. The people who learn to use these tools well, early, will have an edge for the next decade.

Social Media, Branding & Digital Safety

You study how platforms work, how to use them effectively and how to protect yourself online. Digital footprint, Internet of Things security, fraud prevention and the responsible use of social media are covered honestly. You learn the difference between using platforms and being used by them, and how to build an online presence that reflects capability rather than performance.
